Transition

And so, just like that, with the snap of a finger, a blink of an eye, I'm at the halfway mark of 4th year.

3rd year in Aimst University as a medical student wasn't easy, and now halfway through 4th year, I can honestly tell you, it didn't get any better. Its just a flurry of assignments after assignments, classes, hospital teachings, symposiums, viva, bedside, CAs, datelines, logbooks. Its never ending! Sometimes i feel so suffocated with all these responsibilities, and burdens, i just want to crawl under my blankets and hibernate for an entire month. Self declared holidays are a must sometimes to alleviate the tension and the stress.

Books books books!

3rd year was all about Paediatrics, Obstretics and Gynaecology, Forensic Medicine, Surgery, Community Medicine, and Medicine.

4th year on the other hand, requires us to go in depth within each sub specialty like Opthalmology, ENT, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Dermatology, Accident&Emergency, and Anesthesiology, all of which is a hell lot more difficult than subjects in Year 3!

In 4th Year, we get to visit certain sections of the hospital like the Operation Theater, Anesthesia bay, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), certain wards in HSAH, the outpatient clinics, and sometimes the wards in Alor Setar Hospital (Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah) too!

We get special access to their computer to look through case sheets, and management plans. Plus we get to wear special scrubs (like those you see in Grey's Anatomy) when we are on duty at certain locations in the hospital.

Group pic after hiking up a hill to have a look at a dam that supplied water to a kampung.

When we were in Community medicine posting (4 weeks), we get to venture out into the rural areas of Kedah to evaluate and to learn about the health care systems there. We study about the water supply, the sewage system, maternal and child health, geriatric health. And also about disease control, and food quality surveying.... and the list just goes on. An interesting posting albeit a tiring one cause of all the traveling we had to do.

I'm only about halfway through 4th year, but i feel i have aged a good deal lot, but nonetheless gained a lot of knowledge along the way. I just hope the remaining of 4th year will be kinder to me physically and mentally cause i don't think i will be able to survive another pimple popping put of my forehead! (I RARELY GET PIMPLES >.< ).
